These downloads can be used for development, personal use, or to run Oracle licensed products. Use for otherpurposes, including production or commercial use, requires a Java SE Universal Subscription or another Oracle license.

Java SE is the standard version of Java, it includes libraries for desktop applications, networking, security, database access, and more. There are several package choices. Note that you can install the features from any package into any other package. If you are, for example, planning to do mostly Java development and some C/C++ development, you should download the Eclipse IDE for Java Developers and then add the C/C++ development tools via the "Help > Install New Software..." menu option.

The download will be delivered as a compressed (i.e. a ".zip", or ".tar.gz") file. Decompress this file into the directory of your choice (e.g. "c:\eclipse" on Windows) and ensure you have full Read and Execute permissions. You can optionally create a shortcut of the executable file ("eclipse.exe" on Windows, or "eclipse" on Linux).

Note that there is a known problem with the built-in decompression utility on all current versions of Windows. We recommend that you use a more robust decompression utility such as the open source 7zip when decompressing an Eclipse download. Some people report success when initially decompressing Eclipse into a root directory (e.g. c:\) and then moving it to a more appropriate home (e.g. c:\Program Files\Eclipse)

As a simple test, open a Command Prompt window, move to the directory that is pointed to by the -vm argument in your eclipse.ini, and run the intended java.exe with the -d32 switch to test if it supports 32-bit, or -d64 to test for 64-bit support. It's often simplest to download a version of Eclipse that will work with whatever Java you already have installed.

You can install the Android SDK using command line tools or through Android Studio. Android Studio provides an easy to use GUI based tool, but installs additional software on your computer. Using the command line tools is a smaller download and does not install additional software, but it can be more challenging to use.

Historically, for all previous Java SE versions (7, 6 and older), the End of Public Updates has meant that Oracle no longer released any future update for that version on any public websites for public download. Any updates released after the End of Public Updates were released on My Oracle Support (MOS) or certain other Oracle internal channels for those support customers who are entitled to download them.

The above command assumes the JDK filename is jdk-8u351-linux-x64.tar.gz and it is located in the /Downloads folder. If your downloaded file is in any other location, change the command according to your path.

The Azul APT repository uses the package dependency paradigm typical for Linux distributions where packages that provide complex functionality depend on packages with more basic functionality.Thus, the JDK package is split into multiple packages, such as JRE, documentation, source files, and so on.When you install the JDK package, you install the package itself and all its dependencies.You can also install the dependent packages separately.For example, if your application requires JRE only, you can install just the JRE package (or headless JRE) without downloading unnecessary dependencies.

You can download the Azul Zulu DEB package from the Azul Download page and install it manually using the APT package manager.Azul provides three types of downloadable DEB packages: JDK, JDK with JavaFX, and JRE.See Downloadable DEB Packages for more information.
